In an industry with many options, how do you choose the best tool to fit your needs? Soldering irons are available in several different types. Thus, you need to consider the project at hand to determine the proper the equipment. At Waveroom Plus, we offer a variety of state-of-the-art soldering products. This article will highlight two soldering irons produced by Metcal.
CV-H1-AV “Advanced” Soldering Iron
The CV-H1-AV is an ESD-Safe, Connection Validation (CV) Series "Advanced" Soldering Iron Hand-Piece. This iron is designed for use with the CV-5210 & CV-510 Soldering System. The CV-H1-AV iron is ideal for most general soldering applications including task soldering, touch-up soldering, Surface Mount Devices (SMD) Rework and Pad clean-up. The iron features a lightweight and ergonomic design, and the handle is constructed to stay cool, perfect for high production soldering environments. Compatible with the Connection Validation (CV) Technology, which evaluates the quality of a solder joint by calculating the intermetallic compound formulation and provides closed-loop feedback instantly to the operator. The solder joint validation is signified via the LED light ring integrated into the hand-piece. Illuminating "green" when a proper joint occurs and "red" when a joint is unsatisfactory. Eliminating the risk associated with the variables involved in soldering applications and removes the success/failure determination of a good solder joint out of the hands of the operator. This helps complement the operator’s skills for judging the quality of a solder joint by introducing an objective method of evaluating solder joint quality. This process also provides a systemic and objective approach for repeatability as well as a measurable standard to the soldering process.
CV-H2-UF “Ultra-Fine” Soldering Iron
The CV-H2-UF is an ESD-Safe, Connection Validation (CV) Series "Ultra-Fine" Soldering Iron Hand-Piece. This iron is designed for use with the CV-Series Soldering System (CV-PS5200 -or- CV-PS500). The CV-H2-UF is compatible with the Connection Validation (CV) Technology, which evaluates the quality of a solder joint by calculating the intermetallic compound formulation and provides feedback instantly to the operator. The solder joint validation is signified via the LED light integrated into the hand-piece. Also illuminating "green" when a proper joint occurs and "red" when the joint is unsatisfactory. This helps eliminate the risk associated with the variables involved in soldering applications. It also removes the success/failure determination out of the hands of the operator. This helps complement the operator’s skills for judging quality of a solder joint by introducing an objective method of evaluating solder joint quality. This process also provides a systemic and objective approach for repeatability as well as a measurable standard to the soldering process. The CV-H2-UF is ideal for soldering on mini and micro components. The iron features a lightweight and ergonomic design which is constructed to stay cool, perfect for high production soldering environments.
